Operation Tomodachi and Afterwards: The U.S. Marine Corps and Disaster Cooperation in Japan

Please join us for a breakfast lecture and roundtable discussion of Operation Tomodachi: the United States’ military and Japanese Self-Defense Forces’ joint disaster response to the Great East Japan Earthquake & Tsunami. Dr. Robert Eldridge, Ph.D. will tell attendees about how the US Marine Corps participated in the Tohoku recovery efforts.

Dr Eldridge Dr. Eldridge is the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, G-7, Government and External Affairs (G-7), Marine Corps Installations Pacific/Marine Forces Japan. Prior to moving to Okinawa, he was a tenured associate professor of Japanese Political and Diplomatic History at Osaka University’s Graduate School of International Public Policy and the Acting Director of the university’s Center for International Security Studies and Policy as well as head of the U.S. – Japan Alliance Affairs Division of the same center.
