PSU Center for Japanese Students presents a comedy-filled authentic Japanese cultural event.

Rakugo performers impersonate all sorts of characters — men, women, and children, creating different identities with different voices and body language. Their only props are a fan and a towel, but they evoke a wide world of both familiar and quirky characters with virtuosic skill.

PSU’s featured performer is Hayashiya Hikoichi, making his American debut.

His plays will include two favorites:

Chiri – Tote – Chin will have you laughing as some poor neighbors trick their wealthy landlord into eating spoiled tofu, and enjoying it!

Hatsu Tenjin (First Market Day) features unexpected shenanigans at a crowded festival market.

Performances will be in Japanese with English subtitles.
