PSU Center for Japanese Studies presents an evening with President and CEO of Columbia Sportswear, Tim Boyle.

Early in the history of Columbia Sportswear, when local institutions would not provide capital the company needed to grow, a Japanese corporation stepped in with an injection of capital that was crucial to the company’s development. Later, as Columbia Sportswear expanded, the company entered the Japanese market and Japan became Columbia Sportswear’s most important market outside of the US. Thus, from the beginning through to the present, Japan has been at the center of Columbia Sportswear’s development into the worldwide leader in sportswear that it is today. CEO Tim Boyle, one of Portland’s most respected figures in business, will recount this history.
