ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW – Annual Dinner

The Annual Dinner is our largest annual event. It is also our AGM. It is also a fundraiser for JASO’s work.

This year our theme is: Celebrate. Engage. Network.

Date: Wednesday May 23rd, 2018
Location: Castaway, 1900 NW 18th Avenue, Portland, OR 97209
Time: Check in opens at 5:30pm, event closes at 9pm

What do I wear: Cocktail Attire
Food: A beef dish is the main course. If you require the vegetarian dish (miso cauliflower steak) or have other special needs, please let us know by Wednesday May 16th. Contact 503-552-8813.
Parking: JASO has bought the parking lot on the east side of NW 17th Ave, directly across from Castaway (which is on the west side). The parking lot address is Lot #337, 1631 NW Thurman. Entry/exit point is where NW Upshur St connects to NW 17th Ave. Free parking starts from 5:30pm. If you park earlier, you should buy a parking lot ticket from the machine. This lot holds 100 vehicles. Additional parking is available “street-side” in the vicinity.
Silent Auction, Oral Auction & Raffle: Please bid generously. Please pay for any winnings before leaving, and take items.

KATU morning TV host Wesleigh Ogle will emcee our evening this year – dressed of course in kimono! Come meet, hang out, with Wesleigh – she may let you even take a selfie if you ask her nicely :-)

Open Bar – yes that’s right – your ticket includes drinks all night long! A big thank you to beer providers Sapporo, Anchor Brewing and Culmination, Torii Mor for the wine, and SakéOne for saké tasting.

Member Showcase – Seven JASO corporate members want to meet you, and talk about the US-Japan relationship. Portland Japanese Garden, ProActive English, St Cousair Oregon Orchards, The International School, Yamasa USA, Japan Abacus Math School and KEEN Footwear aim to connect you with their latest business interests, and learn more about you!

Silent Auction – need KEEN shoes? Timbers tickets? A hotel stay downtown? A basket of delicious jams and pasta sauces? Auction items now being committed, so bring a little cash, your check book, or your credit card, and have fun finding a cool, unique US-Japan items!

Chef Naoko hors d’oeuvres – if I say “grilled ota tofu with Aritagawa sansho and kale green miso suace”, or “”grilled spicy teriyaki chicken”, or perhaps “salt inarizushi with yuzu marinade king salmon”, do you start to feel hungry?

3-course meal by Chef’s Table – renowned as a leader in the local food scene, Chef’s Table brings their Japan-inspired fusion to your 3-course meal with a main dish of beef, or miso cauliflower steak vegetarian option. More details soon!

Oral Auction – Going to Tokyo? – you’ll need the only direct flight from Delta Air Lines – get them here and make a much-valued contribution to JASO at the same time!

Kenny Endo with Portland Taiko – renowned taiko star Kenny Endo has flown in from Hawaii to entertain us with a stunning, evocative taiko performance, backed by our friends at Portland Taiko.
