GoGiveShare Hokkaido

by Lynn Moyers on October 5, 2018

Following the earthquake in southern Hokkaido on September 6, several Japan-related groups in the community have gathered, to figure out concrete ways to help. In 2019 Portland celebrates 60 years of its Sister City relationship with Sapporo, and all year long the Portland Japanese Garden features the cultures of Hokkaido.

Groups involved include Portland Japanese Garden, Portland-Sapporo Sister City Association, City of Portland, Shokookai of Portland, JASO, Yuuyake Shimbun, plus some concerned individuals.

The situation is fluid and we are still gathering information on how to best help. Our focus is on:

Go – can a group of volunteers go from here and help on the ground

Give – can we send donations to a local organization doing good work now, and can we gather donations for a contribution to help Sapporo recover also.

Share – can you help us spread the word.

We’ll meet at 6:30pm on October 22nd at the JASO offices at 221 NW 2nd Ave, Portland, OR 97209. Please join us if you want to get involved.
