Oregon’s Attorney General joins panel discussion on Women’s Leadership

Ellen Rosenblum, Oregon’s first-ever female Attorney General, will join as our third panelist in our inaugural Japan Update event luncheon on Thursday February 7th at the Hilton downtown Portland.

The Japan Update is this year hosted by our Women’s Leadership Council, and features a discussion by three top women leaders, sharing insights on women’s rights and leadership in the workplace and in society today.

Ellen joins Karan Narasaki flying in Washington DC, and Junko Tsuda travelling from Tokyo to take part. The 3 leaders’ discussion covers a wide range of top-level organization experience in very different sectors in a moderated discussion. The event includes delicious lunch, and is just $30 for JASO members and $35 for non-members.

Ellen Rosenblum became Oregon’s 17th Attorney General, and first female, in June 2012. She grew up in Illinois and went to college and law school at the University of Oregon. Both of Ellen’s children participated in the Japanese immersion program at the Portland School District.

Prior to her current role as Executive Director, US-Japan Council Tokyo, Junko Tsuda worked in communications and HR at companies in Japan including Walt Disney, Cartier, Hilton International, ING Life Insurance and GE, leading initiatives on women’s career advancement.

Appointed by President Obama in 2014 as Commissioner, US Commission on Civil Rights, Karen Narasaki joins us from Washington DC where she is a national authority on civil rights, census, media diversity, immigrant rights, and race relations. She has focused on equal rights of women across a broad range of business and government sectors,  and named several times by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the 100 most powerful women in the nation’s capital.

Mari Watanabe, Executive Director for Partners in Diversity at Portland Business Alliance is an expert in diversity issues in the world of business and the non-profit sector, and will moderate the discussion among our panelists.
