posted Oct 30, JASO seeks new Japanese language teacher(s)

by Lynn Moyers on October 30, 2019

JASO teaches business Japanese and general Japanese language to our membership on weekday evenings at our offices in downtown Portland.

Our students are busy adult professionals who create time in their weekly schedules for study, usually (but not always) because they are connected to Japan through their work.

We run a range of beginners’ courses, plus one intermediate course.

Beginner classes use a designated text book. Intermediate class is topic/article-based.

We have options on classroom space, with different-sized conference rooms available. All include access to the internet and laptop provided.

Winter term runs for from mid-January to spring break. Spring term runs mid-April to June. All terms are 8 weeks, with a 9th week in case of bad weather, teacher sickness, or other emergency. Lessons are 90 minutes long. Students are not given homework or tests, but they are expected to prepare for each class with pre-study.

Class runs if a minimum of 4 students sign up, to a maximum of 12.

Students sign up from 4 weeks prior to class, and complete a survey in advance to help with placement. Students are given the option of taking 2 different classes during week 1, to ensure they are placed most appropriately.

If interested, email your resumé to gmorris@jaso.org.
