Japanese Language Instructor

JASO seeks a dynamic Japanese Language Instructor specialist who can lead the Society by teaching an established series of language programs covering business needs, travel and vacation needs, and individual and pair classes.

This is a fixed-period position from January 5, to one week after the final group classes of spring term in June 2026, or June 30th, whichever is the later. Potential for continuing employment according to outcomes.

Reports to: Executive Director

Weekly Hours: 20 total

Core Hours: Build an agreed calendar of regular weekly hours and host identified classes Monday to Thursday both online and in-person in downtown Portland.

Office vs Home: Combine working between home and the office.

Role Responsibilities:

The Instructor is responsible for organizing, planning and teaching a variety of online and in-person small-group courses for Winter Term (January – March) and Spring Term (April – June) 2026.   Courses are 8 weeks in length, 75 minutes each. The Instructor should anticipate a minimum and maximum of 10 hours each week student contact hours, with the remainder for planning and office administration purposes.

The Instructor may be required to attend occasional additional identified JASO programming and other work functions that may be outside of regular work hours.

Major Tasks

  • Teaching group classes based on the curriculum outlines provided
  • Making lesson plans
  • Administration around elements of teaching courses as required
