Annual Gala & General Meeting

Join us at our largest annual gathering as we celebrate and learn about the amazingly varied connectivity between our community and Japan, and help us in our work through your donation or sponsorship. Our Gala theme this year is our bonds, our kizuna.

From business, trade and welcoming Japanese investment here, through an amazing array of authentic culture to starting and building personal relationships and friendships. Let’s spend time together, learn about educational opportunities, community Japanese heritage, and eye-opening Japan-related businesses.

A true celebration of Japan always embraces mouthwatering cuisine, and this year we’ve created a truly unique foodie experience with an authentic Toyama bento packed with kombu-wrapped wagyu beef, trout masuzushi on bamboo leaf, Toyama snow crab, hamachi and anago kamaboko, and hotaru ika (firefly squid) flown in from Toyama via the world-famous Toyosu Market in Tokyo for fresh, authentic deliciousness!

Date: Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 6pm to 9pm

Dress Code: Portland Business, from business casual to cocktail

Parking: On-site parking for around 50 vehicles. Streetside for all others.

Menu:

  • Negima Yakitori, edamame, harusame salad (*vegan version available).
  • Toyama-ken bento* provided with the support of Toyama Prefectural Government and Toyama Zen Noh
    • masuzushi (cured trout on pressed rice wrapped in bamboo leaf)
    • shiro-tororo and kuro-tororo onigiri balls (shredded kombu-dusted rice balls)
    • wagyu beef and kombu wrap
    • sushikama kamaboko, hamachi and anago-topped fish cake (yellowtail and conger eel)
    • hotaru ika (soy-marinated firefly squid with fresh ginger)
    • kani sunomono (Toyama snow crab)
    • dashimaki (pressed omelet with dashi and sake)

Beverages:

A selection of sake from SakéOne, beer from Asahi USA and Fort George Brewing, and wine from Denison Cellars. A variety of soft-drink and sparkling juice non-alcoholic options.
