Social Functions
Wednesday – Welcome Hour with JASO. Join us at the host hotel for drinks from 6pm to 7pm, and pick up your free welcome bag. First-come, first-served.
Thursday – Portland Japanese Garden. Check them out before you arrive HERE. Perfect weather and if no cloud cover, amazing views across the city to Mt Hood (there may be cloud cover, if so we’ll focus on the Garden itself instead <3)
Friday – Social on the KEEN Rooftop, 35 min walk to 505 NW 13th Ave or take the streetcar. The store is closing and re-opening JUST for you, from 5:45-6:45pm. EVERYTHING in the store is 40% off. Do some pre-shopping HERE so you are armed and dangerous when you get there. #XmasInAugust. Graham leads walking group, Alyssa leads streetcar group to Keen from the hotel lobby 15 mins after final panel ends. Get changed quickly, it’ll be 75 degrees outside and we’ll be ready for fresh air, laughter, delicious Keen menu of appetizers with amazing Oregon wines from Denison Cellars and Shiba Wichern, beer from Asahi USA, and IPA from Portland specialists Culmination Brewing, plus please introduce yourself and discover our friends at other Japan-related non-profits who will have tables. Japanese American Museum of Oregon, Japanese Ancestral Society, Obon Society, Oya no Kai. They want to know your stories, and understand how they can be a part of what you deliver to your community.

Eats (distance from hotel – but plug these into google maps) – close(ish) Bangkok Palace $ (good Thai), Luc Lac $ (yum Vietnamese), Urban Farmer $$$ (at The Nines – bit fancier American), Shigezo $$ (good Japanese), Murata $$ (#1 Japanese), Southpark Seafood $$$ (spendy but yum), Portland Food Hall $ (food court) more of a walk – Jake’s $$ (famous for fish), McMenamins $$ (burgers + sandos & craft beer together), Lechon $$ (amazing S.
