Part-Time Retail Associate – Japanese Artisan Gifts & Tea

LYC Japanese Artisan Gifts & Nara Tea Co. is seeking a friendly, reliable, and culturally curious team member to join our Portland store.
We specialize in authentic Japanese artisan products, matcha and tea, teaware, incense, calligraphy supplies, ceramics, and traditional cultural experiences. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys customer service, Japanese culture, and working in a small, community-focused business.
Responsibilities:
- Welcome and assist customers in a warm and professional manner
- Process sales and operate the POS system
- Prepare matcha tastings and support tea-related events
- Receive, organize, and merchandise inventory
- Keep the store clean, organized, and visually appealing
- Assist with packaging and shipping online orders
- Support cultural workshops and special events as needed
Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Interest in Japanese culture, tea, arts, or traditional crafts
- Retail experience is preferred but not required
Schedule:
- Part-time
- Weekend availability preferred
- Flexible scheduling available
